No contacts

When I got this phone I tried adding my contacts back and they don't show up in the stock contacts app so I use GO SMS for my contacts. But my question is why don't my contacts show up in the stock app? Everything is stock except recovery on this phone.

settings>accounts and sync>google do you have sync contacts checked? If you had contacts backed up, this will restore them to your phone
