Texting on your computer.
I was wondering if there were any apps that did that. Just for smartphones in general. Like an app that uses the wifi network both your computer and smartphone are on to make an app on your computer use your phone number to send messages. Are there any apps like that for android and/or iphone? I used to use mighty text but i found it annoying that your phone got them before your computer and your computer would get them in batches instead of one at a time. Now i have an iphone (i miss my android) but WIFISMS doesn't work on iOS6. I was just hoping for an idea in general of apps on the computer and app store/play store that do that.

Google talk (chat) works
I think 'igotchat' can do that too

SnapPea works, however when it was in beta it wasn't compatible with the Optimus V. I did tell them about it and have a little bit of dialogue with the guys working on it, so they may have added support: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]

Switch to Google voice. Get a new number, give all your contacts that number, and never worry about it again.

Re: Texting on your computer.
I have been using Google Voice for years and I find absolutely no reason to switch to any other carrier. Google Voice is the s*** all you have to do is verify an American telephone number 1 time and when you install the app for your Android or iOS, skip the voicemail setup. Also very important note is that if you want to use calling for Google Voice on your phone just download an app called Groove IP.

Re: Texting on your computer.
Yeah google voice plus Groove IP Free (I bought the full version, but our 3g ping time is way to high for a good connection, you get about a 8 second delay over 3g) is the killer combo for multiplatform texting and free calling.

I have the full version too but I only use wifi on my phone.

And if you get Google voice, you can also set up something like freepbx and use it for free home phone.

It's seriously awesome, great way to manage multiple conversations
