I'd like to connect a small battery to the camera while shooting to ensure that it won't run out of juice while shooting video. Is that possible?

it won't damage the camera I think.

I now have my Gear 360 camera. The answer is that yes it's possible to record while charging. However, there's a door on the side of the camera where the USB micro cord plugs in. Part of the door will be in the shot and if you don't get a right angle charging adapter then the charging cable will be in the shot also.
