Chromebook won't shut down

[AC Question]

I bought a used acer chromebook. When I clicked the shut down button the chromebook appeared to shut down but it simply went into sleep mode as when I woke up the next morning and went to power on it immediately came. It has continued to do the same thing since and go into sleep mode instead of shutting down.

Did I purchase a defect chromebook? Is their a way to fix the issue?

Welcome to the forums. Have you updated the Chromebook? You can force a check in Settings. Once there, you should see at the top About Chrome OS. Click on that, and then click Check and apply updates. If you have an update it will force a reboot, and that might get you out of your loop.

Edit: How long did it take to boot when you hit the power button? What was your previous computer to this?
