Xposed Framework has recently been updated, which means we can now use Xposed to customize the Idol 3. This requires root and TWRP custom recovery.

    Follow these steps

    1. Create backup in TWRP
    2. Download Xposed-v71-sdk 21-arm64 zip
    3. Download Xposed Installer 3.0 alpha 4 apk
    4. Download Xposed arm 64 uninstaller
    5. Reboot to TWRP and flash Xposed-v71-sdk 21-arm64 zip
    6. Reboot (turn phone off then on if you get boot loop)
    7. Install Xposed Installer 3.0 alpha 4 apk
    8. Check framework in Xposed Installer app to see if framework is active (may require reboot)
    9. Start using Xposed modules (download, install, activate, reboot)

Xposed for Lollipop XDA thread with downloads:

Many Xposed modules haven't been updated for Lollipop or only work on Touchwiz, Xperia, etc., but I can confirm that several modules work on the Idol 3.

    Modules working on Idol 3

    *App Settings
    *Boot Manager
*Fix Lollipop Memory Leak (more fluid/less lag)
    *flat style bar indicators
*Gravity Box LP 5.0.2 alpha (lots of UI tweaks)
*Lollistat (match status bar color with apps)
*LP Themer (theme settings, statusbar, quick settings, notifications, dialer, etc)
    *Remove battery saver warning color
    *Statusbar download progress
    *True Silent Mode
    *YouTube Background Playback
