My new Alcatel idol 3 4.7 is switching late to H, what could the problem be?

My new Alcatel idol 3 4.7 is switching late to H

Phone switched from lte to H network every call. Others on other end say I'm very muffled voice. Is this a setting or signal problem ..? Tks

Does not have VoLTE, so it has to switch. (I'm on T-mobile)

I have the 5.5 inch, and last times I've called, other person complained I was muffled. I started talking into the TOP microphone and it was a lot better. Huh!!

I just ran a basic test, I called home from my two phones and left a message.

Alcatel Idol 3: Sounded kind of crappy. Maybe a 4 out of 10.
Lumia 640: Sounded really good by comparison (it has VoLTE). 8 out of 10.

EDIT: I reran the test using my work voicemail, which is nicer because I can listen to voicemails on the computer with decent speakers. The difference is even more noticeable there. And I flipped the Idol to use the other mic and there was no difference on that.
