Amazon just basically confirmed that its new smartphone has a 3D screen that doesn't require glasses....

my question is.... why? I can't think of any legitimate uses for a 3D smartphone... other than viewing porn, I suppose?

3D TVs have been out for a while now and there still isn't any point in owning one. I have watched 3D TV and while it's kind of cool, it's pretty pointless in the grand scheme of things. However, there will be plenty of people who buy it simply because it can do 3D even though at this time there really isn't any advantage to having 3D functionality.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I finally bought a 55" 3D TV last year just so I could watch 3D Blu-ray porn. Unfortunately, there are currently only two Blu-ray porn titles in the U.S. I also got a few 3D Blu-ray movies. After 2 months, I lost interest in it and returned the TV back to Costco for a full refund. Bought a regular non-3D TV of the same size instead.... it actually had more features and a lower price tag.

as for Amazon's 3D smartphone... if it's not on Verizon, then I will have no interest.... Remember, more than half of the US population use Verizon. It will be suicide if Amazon doesn't have a deal with Verizon.

The Amazon Kindle Fire HDX tablets have an AT&T model and a Verizon model available. Amazon could probably strike a deal with Verizon if they actually come out with a smartphone.

Vizio TV had 3D and is now pulling 3D out and going for 4K resolution. Vizio said 3D doesn't sell since their is few movies so they are pulling it out to lower retail price.

To me, it is more interesting than I thought it would be. Remember, this is perspective 3D as opposed to binocular/stereo 3D.

It works with one eye but requires a dynamic view for perspective to work. It will not work for 3D movies.

The 3D gimmick may suffer the same fate as the HTC phone. I do want to see it in action.
