Android App Store updated my native Kindle app on my Kindle Fire

After rooting my Kindle Fire and installing the Google Play app store, the Google app store kept telling me that it had an update for my Kindle app which I steadfastly ignored. But somehow it updated automatically and now my native Kindle app has been replaced by the Kindle Reader app and will not recognize my Kindle content. Does anybody out there know what's going on and how I can fix it? Can I just restore it and start all over again, or will that "brick" it?
