Figured I'd open up a thread here for changes or differences that have been seen with the full release now that it's out, primarily changes from Pie which is what I figure most people will be updating from (and what I updated from).

Here's my list so far (Pixel 2 XL):
    • AoD has changed, or is non-existent compared to what it used to be, lifting the phone or double-tapping the screen results in the full lock screen from before
    • Version/build number is listed on the quick setting pull-down (2 down-swipes on the notification shade)
    • Battery status in the notification shade now shows either time remaining or when the phone is estimated to be out of power
    • System-wide dark theme! There is a toggle for this that can be added to the quick-settings menu

I'm sure there are more but I figured I'd get the ball rolling.

When you are watching a video and turn you screen, this guy appears in the corner which you tap to rotate video into full view.

I think I preferred it when it happened automatically, but at the same time it was annoying when I would he lying in bed and would move the phone to lay on my side and it would autorotate back.

You can still turn on auto rotate instead. I hate pulling my phone out of my pocket to send a text and having it rotate when I unlock the phone so I'm using the new on screen button for rotating when I want to.

I realized this later. I usually have auto turned on but it seemed it was actually off. Anyway, now that I see how this works and that you still have the option to autorotate, I think this is a fantastic add... Probably as underrated as dark mode is overrated!

Huh, another new feature, probably needs to be supported by apps, I saw it with Discord. If someone posts a link in a chat for which you get a notification, the notification includes the ability to open the link directly rather than opening the chat message then tapping the link.

Another item found. If your phone is set up for work using the Android For Work capability - the keyboard in the work profile has its own settings. Threw me for a loop when I went to type something in the work profile and the keyboard had a different theme.

I, too, noticed that my work profile defaults to Gboard, whilst I have Swiftkey in my regular profile. I can't figure out how to change it, if it can be changed.

Look at the very bottom of the attached screenshot. It looks like you can change it there, but it would need to to be installed through the work profile.

Chrome is no longer the default Android System Webview provider (which it has been since Nougat, which meant the actual Android System Webview app was disabled by default). I noticed this because my Pixel 3 XL got an ASW update for the first time in a while. I suspect Google had to do this due to all the EU litigation -- since they can no longer force Chrome to be the default preinstalled browser on all Android devices, it doesn't make sense to make Chrome the default webview provider.

Also, it's nice to have an option for 3 nav buttons again, primarily to use the quick Overview double-tap to toggle between the last 2 apps. The way to do it in Pie was clunky, and it's still pretty clunky in 10.

That auto rotate feature has been in pie all along..., I use the heck out of it. It's great to have the little icon spinning letting you know you can rotate or not right from the main screen, versus having to take an extra step to go into a setting to lock or unlock rotation :-D
