Bought factory unlocked Australian GT-S5830. (accidentally destroyed an older phone while traveling). With pre-paid Telstra SIM, 3G worked wonderfully.

Live in U.S. and use AT&T. With AT&T SIM, cannot now connect using 3G. Getting Edge only. Have tried several APNs. Tried forcing mhz in * # * # 1 9 7 3 2 8 6 4 0 # * # *, but still cannot seem to get to 3G.

Voice works well. Edge works well.

Have tried talking to AT&T, Samsung and local repair place. None help.

Is there not some setting I can change to get 3G to work on AT&T network?

Sorry for the Newbee question, but frustrated. . .

Not sure if you got resolution, but it may be the phone you bought in Australia operates on different 3G frequencies than the US AT&T system.

US AT&T 2G and 3G Frequencies = 850/1900
Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 Specs - 2G Network = 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network = HSDPA 900 / 2100

I saw a note that the Galaxy Ace GT-S5830L operates on the same frequencies as AT&T here in the US
