What are the new codecs supported in 2.3?

I heard that there were new drivers for audio and video codecs in Gingerbread. What does this mean on the front end.

Specifically, I'd love to see proper audio support for .m4a and .m4b files. This is really the only reason I still have my 1st gen iPod Touch.

Will we see new media types able to be used on the front end, or does this really only affect devs?

I believe the new Google codecs are included that were introduced earlier this year.
