Dell venue 8 android recovery mode freezes

I have the venue 8 and for some reason it wouldn't boot into the OS partition. So I accessed the recovery menu and as I selected wipe all data and set for factory reset.. The wiping cache executes and then it seems to freeze on the formatting process. And it stays there for at least an hour until I manually reset the tablet. Any ideas?
