I've searched around, but have not found anything about this anywhere.

Just picked up a Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 and getting everything set up. I use the stock email app for my work email. On my old tablet and my S4 I have the ability to add a widget for that app to my home screen. On the Tab Pro, running KitKat 4.4.2, there is not a widget available to choose from. The other devices were are previous versions of Android, so that is the only reason I can figure out why there is not a widget.

I've seen posts about the widget not refreshing in KitKat, but nothing about the widget not being available to even add to the home screen.

Any suggestions or free alternatives people can provide would be much appreciated.

Same on de Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 and not really pro from Samsung.

Bit of background. They closed a deal with Flipboard (datamining news service which is spam with a widget). In that Windows Metro style you can add a tile with e-mail. Nobody who wants that. To trick you into using flipboard there is no email widget.
