4.4.3 no microphone - where'd it go?

Moto-X, XT-1053:
I have no shaded bar at the top of the lock-screen and thus, no microphone. Apps that used (4.4.2) to have voice input no longer have the microphone, nor does the standard google keyboard.

I have looked in Disabled apps and nothing there suggests it should be re-enabled.

Is this progress? It really sucks that we cannot go back to 4.4.2 - bugs and all.

Any thoughts and suggestions on how to get voice input back? I am guessing that google will force me to join G+, Now or some other junk I don't need or want, just to get the microphone back.

long press the gear key on keyboard. also make sure settings keyboard/input/voice input are correct.

Thanks, but there is no "gear" on the keyboard.

Under Settings, Apps, Running, Google Keyboard, Settings -- "Voice Input Key" is grayed out with an also grayed out message, "No voice input methods enabled. Check Language & input methods," but there is nothing there to enable voice.

Try long-pressing the microphone on the keyboard.
