screen goes off and instantly on while making calls by Panasonic p55

I ma facing a weird problem. When I receive/make call and put the phone near my ears, it goes off for 1 second and comes back and turns on, which is not an ideal behavior. Ideally the phone screen should be off as long as it's near the ears while calling/ receiving.
I checked the proximity sensor also and it seems it's working by using one app such as 'proximity sensor finder' and it works fine. Means when I put my fingers near the sensor it reads 0 and when I remove it say 1 cm or something.
But still the problem persists. Can you help me?
