YouTube app 60fps problem

I have just bought myself a Samsung Galaxy TabPRO 10.1 which was on sale at PCWorld, (currently running 4.4.2) one of the main reasons for doing so was to watch YouTube videos on.

However I have discovered to my horror that I am unable to play any 60fps videos at 60fps. Not only am I unable to play 60fps videos, but any video which I know is available in 60fps, the maximum resolution I can play it at is 480p.

I know YouTube has recently release 60fps support for the YouTube app, but for some reason it won't work on my new tablet. I also have a Galaxy S5 (running 5.0.0) which plays 60fps via YouTube app no problem, so I am wondering if 60fps support is unavailable on KitKat?

How can I make my tablet play these 60fps videos?

Re: YouTube app 60fps problem

That's a known issue with the YouTube app. Sometimes it borks, especially after updating, and disables high resolutions from playing.

You can try clearing cache/data from your YouTube app, and if that doesn't work, try uninstalling updates, reboot, re-install update, clear cache and data afterwards.

Just make sure the video you're trying to play does play in 60fps on another device or webpage.

I've tried clearing the cache, the data, rebooted, uninstalled and reinstalled the app, restored factory settings and reinstalled everything from scratch and still having the same problem... Any other suggestions?

Do you have the link to the video? Just to make sure that it does play in 60fps in other devices...

Re: YouTube app 60fps problem

Apparently I can't post links because I have less than 10 posts. However I know the the video is available in 60fps because I can watch it both on my PC and my Galaxy S5 in 720p60 or 1080p60 but then watch the exact same video on my tablet and it only be available in 480p maximum. It isn't limited to one video either, I've tried it with multiple videos that I know are available in 60fps and the result is the same every time...

Re: YouTube app 60fps problem

On the tablet, can you play ANY videos on 1080p or 720p? The bug on the YouTube app was present for all videos, not just 60fps.

Yes I can play videos that are not in 60fps in 720 or 1080, it's only the 60fps videos that will only play in 480

OK, then it might be a compatibility issue. I remember that at some point some devices weren't added to the YouTube app compatibility list and you'd have to modify the app or a certain file to gain access to fullHD videos.

Re: YouTube app 60fps problem

Is there any way of finding out when/if 60fps compatibility will be added to this device, or is the list of compatble devices available anywhere? The specs for the TabPRO 10.1 say it can record and play 60fps video so I don't see why it isn't capable of playing YouTube videos in 60fps.

One of the primary reasons I decided to buy a tablet was to watch youtube videos on a screen larger than my phone, and as the videos I watch are primarily gaming related the majority are in 60fps, so feeling slightly miffed I dropped £200 on a tablet only find out it can't carry out the primary function I bought it for, and as I have used it I am unable to return it.

Or how would I go about modifying it to make it play in 60fps?

Re: YouTube app 60fps problem

Not sure why some devices are having this issue... :S ValoGames, do you also have a TabPro 10.1? Oriforc, the hardware specs for the tablet don't mean that apps will work if the dev didn't implement it, which is the case of the YouTube app.

If you go to the YouTube webpage on a browser in your tablet, can you see the 60fps option there?

Re: YouTube app 60fps problem

Have tried it on the browser based youtube and still no 60fps option.
Is there any way of finding out whether youtube plan on adding 60fps support for this tablet at a later date?

Re: YouTube app 60fps problem

This problem seems to have partially solved itself now, I still can't watch in 60fps but I can at least now watch videos recorded at 60fps in 720p and 1080p, so I'm satisifed with that!

So if you want to watch videos in 60 then download OGYouTube. It's a mode rd you tube that you can watch in any quality. When you download it tell me
