android kitkat 4.4.2 disable yellow emojis

2 weeks ago i got an s3 neo since my old s3 went to hell after 2 years of constant use. i already got a few things that bug me though, compared to the old phone.
the thing that bugs me the most is that everytime i receive a whats-app message or view a post on tumblr, the once black text emojis like ♡ ☆ turn into colored ones , the smiley faces turn into really ugly yellow android ones and so on. and i hate it. i tried disabling them by using different sms apps and the font etc but nothing seems to work. i dont use the google keyboard, i downloaded it once to try if disabling the emojis on there will help, but it didn't.
I've read that you can change/delete the NotoColorEmoji.ttf file when your phone is rooted, i tried rooting it with KangaRoot but i failed, also sadly i literally have no idea of how to root a phone e.g. if i have to do a factory reset first or something. i enabled developer mode and usb debugging but KangaRoot still fails...
i just want to get rid of the in-built yellow smileys, can anyone help me?
