Multitasking menu woes

I've been with Windows Phone for 1.5 years, and while I still love it's looks and animations, my phone is getting old, and it's about time to jump back on Android, just in time for Android to look prettier with Lollipop. However from using my friends' Android phones, there's one small universal thing that frustrates me whenever I switch between apps. On Windows Phone, when you press the back button on an app and it exits, it is cleared from the multitasking screen. However on Android, my experience is that closing an app (removing it from memory) does not remove the app from the app switcher, and therefore leaves no indication of which apps are running and using up memory and which apps are fully closed.

I'm glad that the multitasking menu looks much better now in Lollipop, but this is one annoyance I constantly get annoyed with on Android. Those whoa re running the dev preview, has this been "fixed", and if not does anyone know of a solution/setting to change this behaviour?
