My Nexus 7 2012 was running brilliantly with Lollipop, but it got worse by the hour until I was faced with constant freezes, basically unusable for any length of time.

I decided to rollback and I'm going to ignore the update notification for a while.

As it stands, I'm not sure Lollipop is fit for purpose on the Nexus 7 2012.

Its working fine on my phone.

I think it's huge, it's just unless you dig around and try all the new stuff it's easy to think it's all skin deep.

I love the trusted devices for smart lock, pinning, etc...

The absolute best thing is the tiny incoming call notifications. Not losing your entire screen every time the phone rings is insanely great.

Lock screen notifications are awesome. Been missing that since WebOS.

The dialer is even better - a refinement of the ideas put forth in the Nexus 5 dialer.

I could go on and on.
everything you said I agree with

While I don't mind the new look, I absolutely hate the new calendar app, which lost so many features its ridiculous.
As mentioned already, I would have preferred to have the option to continue using the stock email app in addition to the gmail app. I quite liked having two separate apps for completely separate email accounts. I can't even install the stock google email client from the play store
The new lockscreen is slightly annoying in that I have to slide up and only then can I enter the unlock pattern.

I think you hit the nail on the head with the 'art deco meets The Jetsons'. There may well be welcome improvements but I wouldn't know as my N7 2012 is almost unusable now. Occasionally I get brief stints of apps opening right up and doing what they do, but mostly I just get non-stop lag.
