What I was wondering that 5.0 has material design makeover but will it affect the OS fluidity does it make is slower or more fluid...

I don't know about the fluidity, but the apps run faster and more smoothly on Lollipop than on KitKat, at least on my Nexus 5.

Android 5 is "fluid" when compared to kitkat (4.4.4).But kitkat was a bit faster in the way it responded to menu button touch and any other touches . For Ex. There are recent dialled cards that appear as soon as you press the dialer icon. The way kitkat responded to the dialer card touch was better than android L . But android L lies ahead in fluidity and it's the point where it kick backs 4.4.4

Lollipop is running fairly smoothly on my 2012 Nexus 7. It is probably a bit slower than KitKat, but it's good enough for me.

Kit Kat had become much more fluid since switching over to ART. Lollipop retains that fluidity, but can't say which is more fluid.

IMO the hype about ART was unjustified. To the naked eye I'm not seeing any improvement in app launch speed, screen transitions, or any other general UI activities. Installed on a 2013 nexus 7, with a fresh factory reset after OTA. I literally can't detect any difference. It's not appearing worse either, but if ART and other performance improvements were introduced, maybe a computer benchmark might notice it but I don't. Which is what should matter.
I was actually hoping that this update would bring my n7 up to par with my mini retina in this regard but was a minor letdown. I CAN notice a difference with the naked eye between my two different brand tablets, but I can't between KitKat and Lollipop on the n7.

It may depend on the device, too. I did notice the performance improvement on my Nexus 5 when I switched from a KitKat-based ROM to Lollipop, but not on my 2012 Nexus 7.

It may, but on a 2013 nexus it shouldn't

You mean among the 2013 Nexus 7's? I don't know. You'd think the performance shouldn't vary among the same type of devices, but that's not always true.

To my eye, Lollipop runs about as smoothly as Kit Kat did; the animations are very different, but I see about the same amount of stuttering on my N4. Lollipop can appear to be more jerky than it is though: it has a lot more animations and they last longer, so whatever hesitations exist tend to be more apparent.

Any .0 releases always seem to have these issues, by 5.1 everything should shake out and be smoother.
