    Hi everyone,

Does anyone know how encryption work ?

Do I just need to enter a passphrase / pattern / pin code at boot time ?

Or do I need to enter the encryption passphrase / pattern / pin code every time the device is locked ?

Specifically : can I enter the encryption passphrase at boot time and then just continue using a simple pattern to unlock the device after a certain period of inactivity ?

Welcome to Android Central! Unless you have a Nexus 6, encryption requires you to use either a PIN or password--no pattern unlocks. See this article for more information: How to Encrypt Your Android Phone and Why You Might Want To

    OK, thanks

So apparently you cannot have two different "secrets", a strong one at boot time and something lighter for screen locking.

    Damn.
