My Google Now notifications were disabled but they started showing anyway. Was there an update that changed how notifications work?

Google Now notifications - had them disabled, but they started showing anyway

I can't seem to get rid of the notifications from Google Now. I've got them turned off in the GNow settings and just in case, I disabled notifications on the Chrome app page. But I'm still getting card notifications anyway. This just started happening a few days ago. Was there a GNow update that changed how notifications work?

Figured it out. Turning off notifications on the Google Now 'settings' form doesn't do it. But if you long press the notification itself and hit the 'info' icon there, it takes you to the app notifications settings for 'Google App' where you can block notifications. I had already gone through the various apps in the app notifications setting, but didn't notice 'Google App'. Has Google Now been re-branded?
