My carrier ETISALAT keeps sending me spam. I have made many complaints to stop this but no luck the spam keeps coming. Now when I go to the spam settings, it only allows me to add a number but the SMS is not coming from a number, it is coming from "etisalat"

how can I block this sender?

What SMS app are you using? Evolve SMS allows you to blacklist a sender based on "name" or number; I can't say for certain that this would work in your case.

Whether you mean Hangouts or Messenger, the next time you receive an SMS from ETISALAT tap to view it, then tap the three-dot menu icon at top right and tap People & options. You should see a choice to "Block ETISALAT".

If I tap to view it, there is only the delete icon on the top right and the back arrow on the top left. there are no 3 dots. If before entering the messages when I am on the main SMSs list I click on the 3 dotted icons, there is nothing called People & Options. I have a Note 4 on Lollipop

Interesting. So, once again, what is the name of the SMS app you are using? I am guessing it is something provided by your carrier.

I suggest you switch to Hangouts or Google Messenger (which you might be able to download, if necessary, here https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...apps.messaging - you are in the UAE, correct?). To switch your default SMS app, go to Settings -> Wireless & networks -> More... -> Default SMS app.

I use an app called Mr Number to block unwanted calls. I am not sure if it just works for a number. Worth trying.

Which could be one of several different apps depending on device and/or carrier. Samsung don't ship with the stock Lollipop Messaging IIRC, but a Samsung specific messaging app.

Visit settings / wireless & networks / more / default SMS app and tell us what you see - download an alternative from the app store if it doesn't have the features you need.

If you block in message app, you will still receive SMS, you only won't get notified.

I don't think that it is possible to block a SMS before it reaches the phone, only your career can.

How could an app block a SMS when the app doesn't know that a SMS will arrive?

Maybe there is an app which deletes the SMS immediately.

If it's your carrier sending the spam, I would assume they can do it in such a way you can't block it. I was getting a lot of spam that I couldn't block. I went to the customer service center for my carrier, TelCel, here in Mexico. They took my phone into the back, where the techs are chained to desks, and when they brought it back they said, "No more." Now, all I get are messages I don't want from TelCel but it's not so many.
