Lollipop and sd

My Sony tablet has just updated to lollipop, it only had about 8gb storage which was very poor, I had an sd card to my disappointment on kit kat I coudnt basically put anything on the sd card, now I've got lollipop is the sd card useful again, if so is it easy to say move apps, pics etc to my sd card, regards john
