Going from OS 4.4.2 KitKat to Lollipop. what is a good route to take?

Going from OS 4.4.2 "KITKAT" to LLOLIPOP.

So I want to go from kitkat to lollipop os. I have a Samsung Galaxy Avant with 4.4.2 os system and am wondering if it would be good to go to the Lollipop 5.0 os system to improve my phone.
