I have no idea what happened. I installed Android 6 and all was fine. Then, it quit charging wirelessly. When I turned it on apps would come on at random and I had no control over what was happening. So, I did a factory reset. I went to the new factory reset option in "Settings" and did it. It worked fine. Then came the backup. That took a couple of hours, with 43 apps, but it loaded all my apps including two fairly expensive ones, loaded all my contacts, and loaded my calendar information. I had to tell it my two email addresses that need to talk to the Nexus, one GMail and one Outlook.com.

It went fairly well. The phone is charging, plugged in, and seems to be functioning properly.

I still don't know what went wrong but it's nice to know the backup really works.
