Why doesn't my Android M have inbuilt apps to view office docs?

why Android M doesn't have inbuilt app to view office docs

Android marshmallow allows to read pdf without any app... but why it doesn't provide same facility to read office docs like word excel and ppt

These are proprietary files and may need to have some kind of licensing that Google felt was not worth the effort.

Google has apps to fill these roles - Docs, Sheets, Slides should open Word, Excel and Powerpoint docs. They may not have installed as part of the OS but they're on the Play Store. Either way, they'd still consume storage space.

Yup... and FYI, they're part of the OS (at least the factory build of MM for the N5 and N7).
