Hey Innocent Dolly.... Sometimes one handed keyboard settings can be a cause...
    Deactivate it by going to
Settings > Advanced features >One-handed operation.

The problem may be any type of "Security App".

In my case, it was TrustGo Antivirus & Mobile Security.

As soon as I uninstalled it, everything worked as it is supposed to. Unfortunately, re-installing the app caused the problem to come back, so I had to remove it again.

Hi Thanks for that note, I was so sure it was twightlight which I had since uninstalled but it turns out it was a keyboard switcher causing the issue.

I had this screen overlay issue, After researching a lot, I turned all the overlays off and still had the issue, I reset my phone to factory, and still an issue.
Turns out, when you disable them all, you need to show system apps too, be sure to check they are off... Seems to have worked on my LG G5.

I know this is a pain, but I fully stand with google on this issue. Apps that create screen overlays can be legitimate, but there's so much potential for abuse that they needed to take it into their hands.

Oh, and for the love of all that's good, please check the app permissions before installing them (on the play store web on a desktop it's much easier). I understand that Google is trying to make it simpler for "non-nerds" (No disrespect to anyone with the expression, I consider myself part of the "nerds", as I work in IT), but "hiding" and "simplifying" permissions is not the way to go, as it results in people not learning important concepts.

If you have a note 5 then I found out how to fix it
    1. Click on
    Clean master
    2. Go to
    Tools
    3. Then click on
    iswipe
Turn it off , then go back to instagram and go allow it will work . That was causing the problem the whole time.

Go here if you need more help that's how I fixed it.

My wife was having this issue as well. I resolved the problem by changing her default browser. Try that and see if it helps.

    Perfect Solution.

Friendly PSA for those upgrading to Marshmallow that use Twilight or a similar app to adjust their phones background lighting.

It seems that apps (or at the least I can confirm this with Twilight) that apply any kind of filter to your screen WILL be detected as having an "overlay"

Meaning, you cannot edit any app permissions with them active. You have to pause or disable Twilight so that it is no longer applying the filter in order to be able to edit app permissions in 6.0. Otherwise, you'll just get the "Screen overlay detected" message and be lead to confusion when you can't figure out why. Pause any kind of app like that and try again, should no longer be a problem then.

For example, I just recently installed skype, in order to allow skype camera permissions, Twilight had to be paused.
Thanks so much I was trying to fixed for 3 days!! That phone Sony Xperia z3 was driving me mad!
I stopped all applications like you suggested and it's working fine now!!!
Omg!! I'm so happy now!! Thanks again!!

Permissions generally only need to be granted once per app.

Any task killer that will "end all" apps. I use the old System Panel app and the "end all" option. Once your task killer stops all apps, go to the app you want to change permissions for and take grant permissions, before the apps you just ended start themselves back up and cause the error again.

Also, I just found out your Facebook Messenger also causes the screen overlay. So if you can't find what to unclick for permissions it could be your FB messenger.
