Galaxy S6 Edge on Verizon. Phone updated to 6.0.1 this morning. I was notified that in addition to my existing fingerprint I had to enter a PIN or a pattern for additional security. I understand that someone has developed a fairly straightforward way to fool the fingerprint scanner, which is, I assume, why they are requiring an additional method besides the fingerprint under certain circumstances.

OK. I get that, but here's what I'm seeing. After requiring the PIN or pattern, on my lock screen, once the lock screen comes up it tells me a fingerprint is required to open. So far so good, but if I pull down and see notifications while still locked, and select one, I am then brought to a screen where I can use either a PIN *or* a fingerprint to open. Entering the PIN unlocks the phone without any use of the fingerprint. SO, in this circumstance, it is not fingerprint and PIN, but simply fingerprint OR PIN. The PIN seems less secure than the fingerprint to me.

Based on the description when it forced me to create a PIN or pattern, it basically stated that the PIN would be used under certain circumstances in addition to the fingerprint. What I have described above is a trivial way to bypass the fingerprint requirement entirely. In trying to make this more secure, they have, in fact, made it less secure. Is there a way to force the PIN only to be used in conjunction with the fingerprint instead of by itself?

I don't have a fingerprint set up on my 5X. I use a 6 digit PIN all the time, as I look at it this way: a PIN is more secure than a fingerprint.

You need either or. If you feel that a pin is not secure enough then you can setup a long unique password to be used with the fingerprint, instead of a pin.

This is on my s7 edge, but I am pretty sure it is the same on the s6
