Volume - Mute

When I mute my Note 4 running 6.0.1 (Sprint) it mutes everything except for media. Anyone have any idea why? It forces me to mute media on its own.

Because that's how mute works. It doesn't mute media. Is there a problem with that, or just something you're wondering about?

Been that way since Gingerbread on my HTC's. Don't have any earlier Androids, but probably been that way from day one. Not sure though.

The mute button is designed to silence any unintentional sounds such as notifications and ringers.
Any media sounds would be user enabled.
