Depends on your particular phone and/or app. If your version of the OS supports themeing, you can find a theme that changes the color of the notification bar and shade, but also some apps enforce their own color, so even though you might have a theme in place, if the app has another color set up, it won't follow the theme color scheme.

I also didn't like the light background color, and the only way I could find to change it was to do work and pick a different theme.

    Try changing your background color/screen.
On my G4, I have a mostly-sky picture as my wallpaper and my notification dropdown is dark in color.

just download a theme from the theme store, I'm using black marble, but there are dozens of themes available, a black theme can also save some battery (AMOLED display ).
Next time you should post in the device dedicated area to get the right answers, i assume you have a Galaxy device which supports the new theme engine

In that case yeah, you should be able to download themes that change the notification bar and shade color. You can still use a different launcher and have the rest of the UI themed.

Thanks for address this issue @TeknoBlast of the blurring or unlikeable backround
colour when default-Phone apps are opened. I owned a SGs7 and dislike Not only

The Screen shown by TeknoBlast, but also the Messages & Contact apps it shows
a white or pale blue, uneasy on the eyes. My SGs7 offers to download themes

But I've to create an acct. I'd rather install-1 from PlayStore. Thnx for the tip

This is an older post, however, thought I'd ask for a Google Play link for 'Layers'.
