I recently revived a notification from my online banking app that my phone has been "rooted" and that I may have issues with security. I am assuming this is something like jail breaking with apple? I have very little experience with androids, but the thing that bothers me is that I didn't root my phone I have installed software updates and one third part app for Snapchat but never any root software. Could this be malware, any thoughts on what this means would be appreciated thanks.

Rooting and jailbreaking are about the same. You can get a false positive even if the phone's never been rooted. Malware? I doubt it.
