Why the 3 dots in phone app don't access the settings menu?

Hello everyone; I just got a Kata i5 phone with Marshmallow OS on. I wanted to verify the call settings and when tapping on the 3 dots in the upper corner in the phone app the pull down menu doesn't open. Instead it opens a dialogue screen where you search for contacts by typing in the specific name. What seems to be the problem? When finally I managed to have the pull down menu appear, it did not want to open the settings menu. I got to settings somehow, and there were only 4 options, none of them was relevant for me. I wanted to be able to hide or display my number.
