Android N's under-the-hood changes might point to a new future for OS updates | Android Central

From reading this article it sounds like Google is trying to take a step forward when it comes to updating Android. Hopefully this means quicker turn around for us consumers when it comes to the new goodies Google has within updates (even on Samsung / HTC / Etc. phones).

Faster updates, or even the monthly patches being more common would be nice.

This is actually incredible news. I was hoping that Google could figure something like this... It only makes sense. All these security patches tend to live in a rather boring portion of the operating system... they involve software daemons and services that are completing such low-level tasks that an OEM would have no reason to fuss with them. When they get patched, as long as the higher systems still function without an update, no harm no foul.

So if done right, Google can hit the big red update button and push out a critical security update to ALL phones without interference from OEMs or carriers... great news.
