Not in Nougat since no phone is out with it, and chances are those will be patched soon, so the official version will have them. Plus, like they say in the article, there ARE checks in place to prevent things like that. Personally I only 'manually' install stuff from the Amazon store (and even for those I only approve them on a per-install basis).

No. Dobie's article gives a thorough explanation, but all he really needed to mention to convince me that Quadrooter is a non-problem is this one fact near the end of the piece:

Free detection app peddled by security company with a product to sell? Check.

I've also read that with Nougat it's got encryption build into the platform and is the most secure version of Android to date. Just me being paranoid that's all. And I'm an Android enthusiast.

As usual, if you're into downloading stuff from places you shouldn't be downloading stuff from, then the risk (and accompanying fear) will never really be gone.

I can't say I'm going to lose any sleep over this. All I've ever needed to keep my phone and PC free from viruses / malware is a little common sense and a good AV.
    SpookDroid and tonyr6 like this.

This is all very true just got paranoid by reading the article that's all. On another note, whenever you visit you're Google now page, does it ever look like this? Ice tries clearing the cache a few times and it STILL happens. I have a good data connection, I don't understand why.

And this confirms we shouldn't worry unless you've tampered with the device.

Yup that's very true. Are you using the new Nexus launcher , or just the stock Google now launcher? I'm using the stock Google now launcher until the final release of Nougat comes out and I've disabled now in tap because I barely every used it.
