We have recently moved to Pixel XL 128G phones from my Galaxy Note 3 (Lollipop) and my wife's Galaxy S5 (Marshmallow) and am not excited about the photo handling. But, I have never paid any attention to Google Photos or whatever it is I need to be familiar with in order to use a Google phone. We had all photos sorted into nice, orderly albums but they did not translate in the data conversion. Having said that, I concede the point that this is 'pilot error'. 
If someone can point me to a forum with the 'big picture' or some other resource, I can probably sort it out. If this is not the place for this question, then please advise.
