    Is there a way to force the phone to do the app optimisation which runs after a firmware upgrade?
    I am using am unrooted galaxy s7 running nougat

    You can try to force it by clearing the system level cache (though, not sure how you do that on a S7).

    Keep in mind that Google made significant changes to the Android Runtime between 6 and 7... one of those changes was specifically made to address the amount of time it took to compile all that stuff.

    Is there a particular reason why?

    Yeah, it's to do with a standalone app
    I created with tasker that uses auto input. It won't work because I can't enable the accessibility settings for it post an update. The app appeared in accessibility settings after my upgrade to nought (was missing in marshmallow) and would work, so I did an update to the app and reinstalled it, at which point it disappeared from accessibility and stopped working (still works in tasker though) . I'm hoping that rerunning optimisation might make it appear again and work
