How to fix apps after Nougat update?

I just updated to Nougat on my HTC One M9.

Now Gmail won't sync or even open properly. Google Play Store only opens to a white screen and never progresses. Same with other Google Play apps.

I've tried clearing the caches, data, force stopping, restarting, uninstalling updates etc.

Has anyone heard of fixes for these issues?

Welcome to Android Central! When you say you cleared the caches, do you mean the app caches for those apps, or the system cache partition, like this: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-31522
