Possible Virus - Play Store opens randomly to specific games/apps

I had the same issue on a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Android 4.1.2 :

- Ad screens pop up randomly on my tablet
- Google play store opens to game pages
- some apps ge tdownloaded ans installed without my permission

In the apps (tab "all") I have items such as pornclub, goolePlay (without a second g), google pay upate (without a d). No music paradise pro or similar music apps installed though

All this happens the week after my 9 year old boy used my tablet to play online...whatever

SOLUTIONS :

Tried the following antivirus without success : CM, Dr Web, 360

No way to uninstall the apps mentioned above, I desactivated them but the problems still occured so they were symptoms but not the cause

Factory reset several times also unsuccessful : after factory reset when I start my tablet I have a screen saying that the OS is updating, it seems that the problems begin after the update, so I suspect the virus is disguised as an android update app, but I was not able to locate it. Also after restarting it appears that the option to show the passwords is ticked in the settings.

I finally did a flash ROM using Odin 3.09 and installed an android 4.4.2 firmware, it seems my tablet is finally clean (and much faster !), to me it was the only way to get rid of the virus. It is probably more than just an adware given the difficulty to find and remove it, and the show password option that is ticked in the settings

I've been having the same problem too! And even after I factory reset my phone! How do I get it to stop!

I found the problem on my Galaxy Note 4. It was an app that I did not install, one called "Avert." I suggest looking through your apps list in settings, app manager, and then uninstalling any you don't recognize, Avert in particular. These popups started right after I installed Swiftkey keyboard but uninstalling it didn't help.

I have the same thing happen all the time, even when there's no internet and I've got my data turned off (I haven't got a clue how it opens with no source of Internet). I've tried resetting my phone, force stopping the app, but nothing works. It's not breaking my phone, but it does get insanely annoying. If anyone's got any other ideas if also really appreciate it, thanks.

I am using the Motorola Moto E by the way.

I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S6
running Android Lolipop 5.1.1

I had this same problem. Google play store would open randomly, often times when i first unlock my phone. It is indeed Music Paradise app that causes it. Uninstall this app and it goes away. It's unfortunate because I like that app, so you can use it and ignore the popups, or uninstall it and fix the issue.

Ok I had the same problem, if you have Aptoide l, UNINSTALL IT. Secondly make an account for Lookout. Lookout should already be installed on your phone. Make the account and scan your phone. It should find a file (or many files) and ask you to uninstall it. If the file(s) it found just hame "" it's an unnamed file and just click uninstall. I believe now it will do a Deep Scan of the apps on your phone to find anything it missed. This worked like a charm on my phone and hopefully it will work for you too!

The first time it happened I attributed it to a random android-brain-fart. I was on the android browser reading news online when all of a sudden the play store opened up directly to an app page for a poker game of some sort. Since then though it has happened at least 7 or 8 times at random. I don't really touch anything yet the app-store opens up to an app page and it's usually a game. I haven't seen the same game twice yet.

I have "Lookout" security installed which found nothing unusual. AVG Free found threats in the form of "the phone is rooted" and "USB Debugging is enabled", but no specific app.

The one thing that comes to mind where I might have given entry to a virus was an email from LinkedIn saying that some guy had invited me to connect with him. I didn't recognize the name (and had seen this email come in a couple of times already) so I decided to unsubscribe from the linkedin emails so I wouldn't get it again. Well as soon as I clicked "Unsubscribe" at the bottom, the browser started to open up and went to a ".ru" domain at which point I immediately backed out of it and ran a Lookout scan. Not finding anything I figured maybe I was being paranoid, but now I'm wondering if I'm infected.

In case it's pertinent here are the device details:

LG Optimus G Pro
JB 4.1.2
Rooted
Kernel 3.4.0
Build # JZO54K

Any help would be appreciated as this is not only annoying, but if there is malware there who knows what else it's capable of doing (or already doing).

Thanks,
Mike

I found out how to fix it. You downloaded something that gave a malicious app administrative rights to your phone. You have to go and deactivate the app from administrative rights and then uninstall. Mine did not have an icon for the app which is why is was a ******* **** to find.. but, no more stupid *** play store pop ups. Good luck.

This has also been happening to me. It first started by opening a new window that was redirected to the clean master app for sale. Now it's beginning to redirect to toy blaster games, but still often goes to clean master or a fake warning that my storage is low and asks if I want to clean that up. Today it redirected twice trying to go to the zerohodge.com website home page. The virus must not like Trump supporters!
What to do? I'm going to buy a new phone! And NEVER accept one single update.

Had the same issue everytime I unlocked my phone it would automatically go into the google playstore.
I downloaded Malwarebyte and run a scan it found in had malware in one of my apps but to rectify the issue I had to allow it permission to fix.
The issue has now been fixed

No need to reset your phone. I got a perfect solution for this issue. Download malwarebytes from playstore and scan your device. If you see any malware found , delete it. Thats it.

I used antivirus scanner that found and delete base.apk, but still the pop ups continues. Tried cleaning cache, data, chrome, ucbrowser, kodi, iptv, es explorer.. bunch of external apks.. force stop programs on my non rooted device, uncheck tick boxes on settings, closing browser tabs, disable chrome syncs.. after weeks none works..

Finally I tried Addons Detector, which has a notification monitor feature.. run that for awhile in the background and wait until the pop ups appear.. when i check on the app, it shows one app with two notifications with the same name as the app but the same icons as the google play store pop ups. Tap and kill the app, the pop ups windows died right away.

The rogue app for me is Screenshot - Screen Capture by iptech mobile that I started using few weeks ago.

I got the same thing a few days ago. It happens when I click on an email or text message from the lock/notification screen on my Galaxy S 5.

This is the link I got when chrome pops up and then it goes right to the play store for various games.

http://admob-redirect.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com/:

I have searched for ads and ran the VZ Protect and found nothing. McAfee SiteAdvisor did warn me the link has malware.

Please help!
Mike

This sounds like what malware bytes calls a "pup" -- potentially unwanted program. It's not a destructive virus per se --at least so it seems--in the sense of destroying or stealing data, it just sort of does its own thing in driving you crazy with inane advertising ploys.

Has anyone thought to contact the makers of the particular apps that seem most associated with this? It may well be that they bundled something with the apps not realizing how annoyed people were going to be. If they are even the least bit reputable, they may address this by removing the bundled code, or telling you how to get rid of it. They may have thought it was a good idea at first. They may reconsider if they start getting lots of complaints. Assuming there is anything reputable at all here.

I haven't downloaded Music Paradise Pro, but I'm having the exact same problem - random Google Play games popping up whenever they want. I've u installed the five apps I recently downloaded since the problem started. I did travel to a different country recently, but I doubt that's the problem
