No icon shows on my app menu after I installed several news apps from Google play, why?

I installed several news apps (CNN, CBS, etc.) from Google play. However, no icon in the app menu was created after the installation was complete. How do I find the apps that have been installed? How do I set it as default that whenever I install an app, there will be an icon in the app menu?
