edit: we have google talk and everybody who has a android phone has a google account and can have google talk

Kik comes to mind. It's the first Android app to have group chat, even if it's only ten people max.

yeah google talk is pretty much it, but cross platform messengers seem to be the way to go

Gtalk is really meant to be the BB messenger for Android really. I do like Trillian though.

yeah, what's interesting is that there are some many fragmented options now....I think it has to eventually get to where a client is cross-compatible with multiple ones, and also a text messaging client that recognizes these (or could send email/text/chat (all 3)).

Does anyone know about anything like this out there or in the works?

The problem with google talk is that you need a internet connection
Unlike Blackberry Messenger you just need a phone and your friends pin
If Android created something like this it would be piff

Yes but you need wifi or a data connection

i use pingchat...its very simliar to bbm
