I use the Astro sdcard app as many here do. Under tools it has an option to backup free (not private) apps. Does anybody here use it? What is the advantage? Could I transfer the backup folder to computer then back to sdcard of new phone and use it to select all free apps and reinstall them? Has anybody tried it?

TitaniumBackup is one of the absolute BEST apps. Can do exactly what you are asking.

Sent from xoom? What about your thunderbolt?

I already have the non-rooted my backup installed. Just wondered if backing up with Astro served any purpose.

Thunderbolt is still recoverimg from the ghostly factory reset. And the xoom is easier to type on.

I tried this on my evo 4g and it seemed to work with that phone, if you move your application over to the sd card, it will take over the app data as well. But i never tried putting it into another phone either. I know that not all of the data gets transfered over to the sd card, but it might be worth a shot.

Yes, those are two main reasons. You can also reinstall an app backup if future updates break the app.

I ended up doing it and backing up on laptop. Doesn't serve much purpose but no reason not to.
