A couple of years ago I had a Garmin GPS in my car. I remember there were two selections from the first menu; directions and a map view. I liked having the map view on while I drive. It would just follow me as I go and change direction when I turn. I could then see the different streets around me as I drive. I have an EVO 4g with Google Maps, Telnav, and Sprint Navigation. I have not found this function in any of them. Google Maps will follow me around but it is zoomed way out and the direction doesn't change with me. Am I missing something or is there a different GPS app that will give me this function?

In Google Maps, why don't you simply zoom in (on-screen + button) and turn on compass mode?

Better yet, choose Navigation from the Google Maps menu (upper left corner) to launch navigation, then just turn on the map without specifying a destination. Navigation will follow you and show you the street you're currently on.
