When I plug my Bold into my computer, I can bring up RIM's desktop software and from there do a full backup of my phone, find the newest O.S. and manage all my files.

When I plug my Iphone into my computer, I can bring up Itunes and do full backups, find the latest O.S. and manage all my files.

How will I do the same sort of thing on Android? I havent found any sort of desktop manager for Android platform?

I don't know if it's exactly what you're looking for.... but, Astro is a free market download that backs up your device on the SD card - then when plugged into a PC, the SD is just another drive and you can transfer the backup to your PC - not as pretty as BB's DM or iphone's UI - but, it gets the job done, and for free.

You can use doubleTwist to manage the music on your phone.

Ditto ilivetowin. Before RIM came out with their D.M. for Mac I used Missing Sync for Blackberry and it worked extremely well. They had one for Android but it didn't have all the 2-way syncing features until it was updated today.

Android Sync Software for Nexus One, Droid, Hero and Other Android Phones

It also syncs everything wirelessly . It's $40 but IMO it's worth it.

i don't think you need a DM like you do on BB. Most of the phone is synced with your Google account. there are a lot of options for syncing music. that is the only thing that i think the phone is missing as a built-in option. plus if you use appbrain, all of your apps are backed up online and shareable.

The only thing I miss about bb is desktop manager (and poynt). I don't think that i should have to use a third party app to save my data. Dm for bb made this all very convenient.

DM made it all convenient, unless you were one of us mac owners then you were screwed that program never worked right for me. And i agree with android i don't think you need a DM type app google does a good job of backing up most things and if you want Titanium backup is great for saving app/app data although does require root.

I'd like to see a PC desktop manager for organizing my apps and setting up my homescreens. Apps Organizer & Folder Organizer are good but involve lots of scrolling and they often deafault back to the beginning of the A-Z sort.
It looks like Ultimate Faves and a couple of alternatives to the HTC Sense screens might also be promising but not as convenient as organizing your apps and setting up your homescreens on a PC monitor.
    Make sense?
Is there anywhere that users display their homescreen congiurations?
    Thanx!
