Using unrevoked I just rooted my evo and I was wondering what are the best apps for a rooted phone? I have a few already. Such as titanium backup and sys tray. But I want one that deals with the cpu and can help save power. I just don't know many apps for rooted phones. Can anyone give me suggestions for some good apps. Paid or free. Willing to pay for a good app.

Best is always highly subjective so it really depends on who you ask and whether or not your needs/wants jive with theirs.

I like ROM Manager, SetCPU and Wireless Tether. YMMV, of course. Try reading around in the hacks/root/ROM sections of this and other Android forum sites for additional suggestions. If you're rooting you should know how to fish for yourself IMO.

I know how to search for myself and I have, but why not use all resources around? So I came here and asked to see what others use that may not be as we widely.

Well in my opinion you should learn to use all the resources at hand. Why be part of a sure like this if you cannot feel comfortable asking things such as this without worry that people like you will respond in the way you did? Sorry but sites like this are to share information.

I wish there was a no thanks button.

Never claimed a right. Just took issue with being told to fish for myself. The editors and staff work hard to provide helpful and informative information on this site. So why not use this site as a resource as it seems to be intended?

Sadly some people here are just too lazy to wan't to help.

Let me try to shine some light down.

Most people root so they can throw ROMS down on their phone, so they can have a different look and feel (as well as features) be that Bugless Beast, Cynogen, ect.

This can be down through a app called "rom manager" it helps you keep track of all the roms and flashing and nandroid backups and such.

Barnacle is the app I use for WIFI tethering.
Although people get confused by this.
It won't show up as a wireless network, but as a adhoc connection.
But your iPad/touch, laptop or computer, or even a old pocket PC if you got one can grab onto it.

You can also do such things like get a screen shot app, so you can show off your phone.

Or overclock your phone with "Set CPU"

Some of these apps require you to do a custom kernel. Thats where roms and such come in. Or if you are adventurous you can do it by hand right in the code, but thats super scary stuff.

    Anywho, I hope I helped a little.

I am sure by bumping this others will feel inclined to comment (AND BE NICE ABOUT IT)

    My $0.02 worth:

    1) ROM Manager - makes it easy to flash custom ROMs
    2) SetCPU - allows overclocking
    3) ShootMe - allows for screen capturing
    4) Root Explorer - think "Astro" or "Linda" on steroids
    5) Spare Parts - miscellaneous tweaks
    6) Terminal Emulator - command line interface

Stop whining. Takeshi suggested three apps to you, and further suggested an avenue by which you could find out more. If you don't want to search on your own, that's fine, but you should still have said thank you for the 3 suggestions.

Coming in here and copping an attitude isn't the way to make friends and motivate people to help you.

I fully agree with meyerweb. Takeshi was kind enough to suggest specific apps for you which is exactly what you requested. And in a polite way, he/she also suggested that you take a look at the ROMs/Hacks section of the forums. Many people do not even realize that they are there due to being multi-level-down subforums. If you don't know, YMMV means "your mileage may vary" meaning that just because he/she likes those apps, doesn't mean you will. So they are also helping guide you to a place where you may find even greater information that caters to your specific wants and needs. So calm down and get out of your "spoon feed me or shut up" attitude.

And so that I don't post in this thread without providing my $0.02 towards the original question, with root access, you'll be able to take screenshots directly from the phone as opposed to having to use the SDK. So if you are someone who likes to take/share your screenshots, something like ShootMe would be a good option.

Titanium backup is also a pretty solid root app allowing you to remove/freeze apps (including ones that don't appear in the "applications" section in settings.

Wow this is an old thread, but a good one. I wanted to give a shout out to sd maid. It lets you clean up your phone like no other unrooted app. Especially if you load roms often. This app will scan your sd card for crap no longer installed apps left behind, search for duplicate files, tons of stuff. Check it out. One of my favorite root apps.
