This is a free Widget that updates daily (Think Iphone Calendar Icon). It also opens Calendar if you click it. Best of all, its free and only a 76kb file.

So if you add an event to your calendar it won't show up in your widget until it updates the one time per day?

The calendar works like normal. The widget is just an icon like the iphone calendar icon that displays the date. I may have worded it wrong.
