I have a Droid X and a Droid 2. Can I use my original Gmail account on both lines so I won't have to re-purchase apps?

You can most defiantly use your gmail account on both phones. But I pretty sure though that when you purchase an app from the market some kind of device ID would be needed as well. I could be wrong but, just makes sense.

This implies that if you upgrade to a new phone you have to buy your apps again.
Can anyone verify this? It's extremely disappointing if true.

Nope all you need is one gmail account. I have 2 phones same gmail for both and all my paid apps are in both. No need to buy them again.
