I do a lot of hiking and rely heavily on topo and trail maps. Are there any apps out there that would allow me to view topos either in the app or on top of Google Maps?

Why not just turn on the Terrain layer of Google Maps?

OruxMaps, free, awesome gps app. You can create your own offline maps using Mobile Atlas Creator. If you live in the US, you can build these maps after MyTopo.com which has the most detailed maps for hiking imo. You can also create them after the USGS maps. If you are in Europe, they are plenty of other alternative in Mobile ATlas Creator to choose from.

Also, if you use it (Mobile Atlas Creator), download the last beta version rather than the official one, as it gives more options to choose from for the maps.

Just hiked the whole Grand Canyon down and up using my phone and Orux. Worked awesome. See my post here

Fox79: thanks for the Oruxmaps pointer. It even supports importing OziExplorer maps using the desktop app...I've been looking for something like that on Android for a while
