Google Hangouts vs Stock Android messaging app

Which one do you prefer for texting? And why?

I prefer Hangouts. Mainly because I use group chats/Hangouts daily and because it's nice to have some cross platform ability. I can talk to family members via my laptop as I have assured they are all using Hangouts as well

And I just think the app looks a lot nicer than the stock one.

I started using Hangouts and I like it . Its a little sluggish sometimes. But it rarely is.
