some podcasts services don't keep all the archive, they remove files from their feeds from time to time, e.g., TAL only kept only one episode every week.

When I was using Dr. Podder on my Pre, I can retain all the files I downloaded and set the app not to delete anything.

Now I installed a dogcatcher, who just kep deleting files when the server removes them.

Any idea? or any other app?

Podtrapper. It has a 30 day free trial too.

Personally, I just use Google Listen. It's free.

i find most of these podcast apps to be unruly, unpredictable, with confusing settings, and with a mind of their own. now i just drag and drop podcasts from my PC into Drobox or onto my SD Card.

It doesn't save it as an MP3, but rather its own file format, as far as I can tell, because it doesn't want your podcasts to be mixed in with your music. (And as someone who uses Last.FM alot and doesn't like his podcasts scrobbling, I agree with them.)
If you absolutely must crack the files open, use a file browser to look for "com.google.android.apps.listen". Good luck, though.

I use doggcatcher daily and love it. Go to "preferences" scroll down to the "auto delete policy" and click on that then choose "none".

That should do it for ya.
